Underground optic fiber telecommunication networks will be developed according to a new standard

The standard of underground telecommunications networks within city limits was drawn up according to the initiative of Netcity Telecom, in collaboration with the Romanian Optic Fiber Association.

The importance that the worldwide community gives underground telecommunications, highlighted at a European level by the 2020 EU Digital Agenda regarding broadband communications via metropolitan optic fiber networks made it necessary to draw up and publish the SR 13558:2014 standard regarding urban underground telecommunication networks.

Wishing to support the telecom market in Romania, which has encountered a spectacular development during these past years, Netcity Telecom has triggered the measures for developing this standard. The need was even more pressing as the prior standard regarding underground telecommunication networks had been drawn up in 1997, and solely referred to metallic cables, as they were the only available technology at that time.

In the process, Netcity Telecom used the know-how and the experience of the team in developing ditch solutions for telecommunication networks. The company’s innovative spirit is also exemplified by the design, development and implementation of the Netcity underground telecommunication network in Bucharest.
